How much does a restaurant photo shoot cost in Asturias

← Back to the blog

There is no published rate for a restaurant in Asturias that can serve as a reference. The figures that do exist come from price guides covering Spain as a whole, and they give a fairly clear picture. On platforms such as Zaask, each food photo costs between €20 and €60. According to Cronoshare data, a half-day session usually costs between €200 and €400. Photographing a restaurant's menu appears in those same guides at between €250 and €500. Another general guide, which does not refer to any particular place, puts a short session for a selection of dishes at around €350. What a session costs depends on something very simple: which images the restaurant needs and where they are going to be used. A six-dish menu for social media is nothing like a full job with dishes, staff portraits and the atmosphere of the premises. That is why two quotes can be very different and both be fair.

What makes the price go up or down

The first thing that changes the price is time. The guides for Spain put an hour of food photography at between €30 and €60, depending on how complicated the work is and how experienced the photographer is. A short session is enough for a handful of dishes. A 6-hour session allows for the menu, portraits, atmosphere and showing what the restaurant is like inside. Then comes the number of photos. The more images, the higher the total, although in large packages each photo works out cheaper: from €5 each in a large package up to €50 for a single image. One example published in those guides is Alex Froloff's Pack Esencial, with 50 to 100 photos in 2 or 3 hours for €545 plus VAT. The dishes count too. Depending on how many there are and what type, a session ranges from €50 to €500. A long menu costs more than photographing only the main dishes, and sticking to those dishes can be a sensible decision if that is all you need. Lighting equipment and backdrops can add between €100 and €500 per session. Some photographers charge separately for editing, so it is worth asking. If you also want printed photos, that is charged separately: between €20 and €500, depending on quantity, size and type of print. How the images are used matters as well. If the photos are for an advertising campaign or are requested on an exclusive basis, some photographers charge more. In one published case, exclusivity rights come to more than €1,500 plus VAT. That is why you need to make clear from the start where, for how long and in which media the photos will be used. And then there is experience. A photographer with years of work behind them and a solid portfolio usually charges more, because a good part of their job is directing the session: deciding how each dish is placed, which light suits it and which part of the premises to show.

Before asking for quotes

The next step is simple and costs nothing. Before asking for quotes, it is worth writing down which photos the restaurant needs and where they will go: the menu, the website, social media, a delivery platform or a sign at the door. With that list, comparing prices is much easier, because every quote is talking about the same thing. Evan & Natalia Simon do photography and video for brands and businesses in Gijón and across the rest of Asturias. A short call with them helps put that list in order and see what kind of session makes sense, with no commitment and no rush.
