Which to choose: wedding photographer and videographer together or separately

← Back to the blog

Hiring the photographer and the videographer together, as a single team, has an advantage that is hard to match: the style of the photos and the video is consistent, and the two coordinate effortlessly because they already know each other. Hiring them separately is also possible, and there are photographers with years of photo and video weddings behind them who prefer each part to be handled by a different company. What really decides the result is whether those two people know how to work as a team, rather than the number of invoices. It is wise, however, to be wary of a single person who promises to do both the full photography and the full video of the wedding at the same time. When someone tries to cover both on their own, something usually goes wrong. And most couples don't expect that either: what they expect is for the photographer and the videographer to coordinate smoothly throughout the day.

Three differences that matter

The first real difference lies in the moments that don't happen twice. During the ceremony, the couple's entrance and the first dance, the photographer and the videographer both want the same instant from the best possible spot. If they haven't worked together before, they can get in each other's way: one steps into the other's shot, or both compete for the same gap beside the altar. A team with shared experience already knows how to divide that space and moves to the rhythm of the wedding instead of trying to direct it, and that makes the coverage feel more natural. Portraits are another delicate point, because it is easy for each of them to want to take the couple in a different direction. The second difference lies in what is actually being booked. A photographer who offers "video as well" may mean a short highlights clip or a simple recording of the ceremony, and that is not the same as a full film of the day. You need to ask exactly what is included. The third is money. In 2025, a complete photo and video package in Spain usually cost between €2,000 and €3,000, depending on extras such as a drone or guest interviews, and a good videographer usually charges a fee similar to that of a good photographer, if not more. With those three things in mind, the choice becomes simpler. A couple who value convenience and a single style tend to suit a team that handles photo and video together. If they already have a photographer they trust, they can look for a separate videographer, as long as the two talk before the wedding.

What to ask before booking

The next step is to ask each candidate for real wedding stories in which the photos and the video of the same wedding can be seen together. If you hire them separately, it is also worth asking whether they have already worked at the same wedding before. And a few weeks before the day, it makes sense for the photographer and the videographer to go through the schedule together and talk about the moments that matter most to the couple. That short conversation usually prevents most friction, which often begins before the wedding through a lack of prior agreement.
