Getting married at Palacio de la Concepción (Gijón): venue guide

← Back to the blog

The Palacio de la Concepción is a stately home in Gijón (Asturias) that is now hired out for weddings. It stands in Somió, a residential and highly sought-after part of the city. It was built in the early 20th century as a manor residence. What stands out most from the outside is its neoclassical façade, with straight lines, columns and symmetry, a style that imitates classical buildings. The name comes from its chapel, which is consecrated to the Virgin of the Conception. For a couple, this means the ceremony and the celebration can take place in the same spot, without moving guests from a church to a restaurant.

Guests and prices

As for the wedding itself, the palace works with groups of between 120 and 350 guests. Below that minimum it does not offer the wedding banquet, so a small, intimate wedding is not a good fit here. Menus cost between €148 and €196 per guest, and the open bar is included in the menu rather than booked separately. That last point matters when comparing prices with other venues, because at many of them the open bar is charged by the hour and pushes up the final bill.

The venue's spaces

The estate brings together several spaces: banqueting halls, a terrace, a garden area, a marquee, a dance area and parking for guests. It also has a kitchen designed so that the caterers can prepare the food on site, which helps the dishes arrive hot at tables of several hundred people. Having covered halls and a marquee as well as the garden counts for a lot in Asturias, where the weather changes easily and a wedding planned outdoors always needs a plan under cover.

Services on offer

The services the palace offers include the banquet, the ceremony, the music and the decoration. In other words, a good part of the organisation can be left in the hands of the venue itself, rather than finding each supplier separately. What this information does not settle is the detail of each menu, what exactly the decoration includes or which dates are still free, and only the palace itself can confirm that.

Taking the next step

For anyone considering the Palacio de la Concepción, the first filter is the number of guests: if the list falls short of 120 people or goes over 350, it is best to look for another venue. If it fits, the next step is to multiply the approximate number of guests by the €148 and the €196 of the menu, to get a realistic budget range. With those two figures clear, the logical step is to contact the palace, ask for the full menus and ask about free dates, how the ceremony in the chapel works and what the decoration includes. Visiting in person, ideally on a rainy day, helps you see how the covered spaces work.
