A Practical Guide to Getting Married at Palacio de Moutas, Asturias

← Blog

The photos on this page are from other weddings of ours (Alicante, Luanco), not from Palacio de Moutas.

The Palacio de Moutas is an 18th-century palace in the Asturian Baroque style. It stands in Pravia, in Asturias, and is preserved in a condition that its own website describes as "unrivalled". It hosts complete weddings: the civil ceremony outdoors or indoors, the drinks reception and the wedding banquet. The catering and service are handled by Deloya Gastronomía, the company that runs the palace's events. It suits couples looking for a historic building in the centre of a town rather than an estate in the countryside. For a small wedding it may feel too big. One wedding portal, without the palace confirming it on its website, mentions a minimum of 120 guests.

Location and getting there

The address is Parque Sabino Moutas 3, 33120 Pravia, Asturias. According to the palace itself, it is about 20 minutes from Oviedo. The building occupies one side of Pravia's main square, next to the Collegiate Church. Pravia is the town that Deloya describes as the former capital of the Kingdom. The Collegiate Church is not part of the palace, but anyone wanting a religious wedding has it just a few steps away. A wedding portal presents it as an ideal place for that kind of ceremony. No figures have been published for the travel time from Gijón, Avilés or Asturias Airport, so it is best to ask the palace before sending out the invitations. Guests arriving by car will be driving into the centre of a town rather than along a rural road, something to bear in mind when giving directions. The same portal lists transport among the palace's services, a detail that has yet to be confirmed.

Spaces and capacity

Outdoors, the palace has a south-facing garden of 900 square metres. It can host civil ceremonies and drinks receptions, and it has two terraces designed for the drinks reception. Inside, the building is arranged around a central courtyard surrounded by stone columns. A wedding portal adds further details that the palace does not include on its website. It speaks of two floors of rooms, with the upper one being the grander, suitable for an indoor drinks reception and for the civil ceremony. The same portal mentions banqueting rooms and a dance area. Capacity does not appear on the palace's website either. That portal gives a range of 120 to 250 guests for the banquet, a figure pending confirmation. Nothing is said about a chapel inside the building, and couples who need one will have to ask. Nor is there any information on how many people fit in the garden or in each room separately. According to the same listing, which no one has verified, the palace holds only one event a day, so the whole building would be given over to a single wedding.

Catering and menus

The food is in the hands of Deloya Gastronomía, and both the palace and the company itself present Deloya as responsible for the banquet. A wedding portal notes that the space cannot be hired without its catering service. That detail, like everything in this paragraph that comes from that listing, is unconfirmed. The listing shows menus from 148 to 250 euros per guest, excluding 10% VAT. One of those menus would include hire of the space, three hours of DJ and three hours of open bar. The cooking is described as market-led, traditional, regional and signature. There would be menus for vegetarians, vegans, diabetics, people with high blood pressure and coeliacs. The couple could bring their own cake at no extra cost. Payment would be made in two halves: one the week before the wedding and the other in the days afterwards.

Accommodation, parking and accessibility

The palace has no accommodation for guests, according to a wedding portal, although this is a detail that would need confirming. Nothing says whether there is a room for the couple. Families coming from elsewhere will have to find somewhere to stay in Pravia or the surrounding area. A good question for the palace is which hotels it recommends and whether it has arrangements with any of them. No information on parking has been published. As the palace is on a town's main square, it is worth finding out where guests can leave their cars, whether there are reserved spaces and how arrivals and departures are organised. The same listing, without confirmation from the palace, states that the building has access for people with disabilities.

Plan B if it rains

It rains in Asturias, and here the central courtyard is the key element. A wedding portal reports that, after a full refurbishment, it was roofed over so that it could be used in any weather. The palace does not confirm this on its website. If so, in the rain everything would move indoors: the ceremony and drinks reception to the principal floor and the banquet to the banqueting rooms. What is not clear is what happens to a ceremony planned for the garden. You need to know up to what day it can be moved and who makes the decision.

Photography at the palace

For photographs, what stands out most is the Baroque architecture, the central courtyard with its columns and the light in the gardens, three features that Deloya highlights. The images published by a wedding portal, with no other confirmation, show couples in the upper corridor, ceremonies in the garden, outdoor aperitifs, banqueting rooms and evening ceremonies. The corridor, with its gallery overlooking the courtyard, appears in several of them. The façade on the main square and the garden terraces are other spots with character. Nothing is said about distant views. That portal also offers a 360-degree virtual tour and several videos of the venue, which help you get a feel for it before you go.

Booking and questions for your visit

To book or arrange a visit, the palace can be contacted by phone on 662 965 429 and by email at info@palaciodemoutas.es, and its website is palaciodemoutas.es. There are several things to clarify during the visit. The first is how much the fixed fee for the venue is, which a wedding portal mentions without giving the amount. Also, what happens if the minimum number of guests is not reached, because according to the same listing this is dealt with couple by couple. On top of that, you still need to find out what time the party has to finish, where guests park, what the plan is if it rains and which dates are still available.
