A practical guide to getting married at the Hotel de la Reconquista, Asturias

← Back to the blog

The photos on this page are from other weddings of ours (La Nucia), not from Hotel de la Reconquista.

The Eurostars Hotel de la Reconquista is a five-star hotel in the centre of Oviedo, in Asturias. It occupies an 18th-century building declared a National Monument, with a Baroque façade, function rooms and interior courtyards. Weddings of almost any size are held here, from the most intimate to the very large. Its listing on Bodas.net, where it has appeared since 2014, mentions 80 to 800 guests and just one event per day. Couples who have left reviews there give it 4.9 out of 5. Asturias.com adds a curious detail: every year the winners of the Princess of Asturias Awards stay here. Looking for a wedding in the heart of the city, with history in its walls? Read on.

Location and getting there

The hotel is in Oviedo's historic centre, next to Parque San Francisco. Asturias.com places it 150 metres from the park and the shopping streets. Bodas.net says the old town is just a few steps away. Because it is right in the city, guests staying in the centre have it close at hand. The exact street and number do not appear on the pages we have read, so it is worth asking the hotel for them before sending out the invitations. Nor have we found how many kilometres or minutes it is to Gijón, Avilés or Asturias Airport. For anyone coming from further afield, the most practical thing is to check on a map and ask the hotel how transfers are usually arranged. According to Bodas.net, the hotel includes transport among its wedding services. It is worth asking what that covers: just the couple's car, or something for the guests as well.

Function rooms, courtyards and the ceremony

The Reconquista has function rooms and courtyards. The two rooms named by Bodas.net are the Salón Reconquista, which holds up to 400 people, and the Salón Covadonga, for up to 120, with décor that the listing describes as unique. Then there are the courtyards. The Patio de los Gatos takes up to 290 diners. The Patio de la Reina goes up to 800. Asturias.com also mentions that courtyard, describing it as a lovely spot for appetisers and drinks. The Bodas.net listing suggests them for weddings in the summer months or for the cocktail reception. It also lists a terrace, a marquee and a dance area, and mentions more than 9,000 m² in its convention centre. The party can go on until 06:00 at the latest. And the ceremony? Bodas.net includes it among the hotel's services, but does not say which space it is held in or whether there is a chapel. It is one of the first things to ask on your visit: where people get married here, whether the ceremony can be a civil one at the hotel itself, and how many chairs fit.

Food, menus and prices

The hotel has its own kitchen. Bodas.net makes it clear that you cannot hire the space alone without the catering, nor bring in outside food. It describes cooking that blends Asturian tradition with contemporary ideas: market, traditional, regional and fusion. Asturias.com essentially agrees, and says the hotel's two restaurants serve Asturian and international dishes. Menus can be adapted. There are options for vegetarians, vegans, diabetics, people with high blood pressure, people with allergies and coeliacs. The hotel also makes the wedding cake. As for money, the Bodas.net listing gives menus from €169 to €350 per guest and says there is no fixed venue fee. The minimum is 80 guests. If you fall short, the surcharge is negotiated wedding by wedding. That listing also includes a promotion for weddings of at least 90 adult guests: it includes a menu tasting for up to six people, second helpings of the fish and meat courses, a cocktail designed by the bar team and a pianist during the cocktail reception, subject to conditions.

Accommodation and parking

There is plenty of room to stay. Bodas.net mentions 142 rooms for the couple and their guests. Asturias.com says they are Baroque in style, with 7 Junior Suites, 4 Grand Suites and two Royal Suites. Those two suites measure 80 m², with a separate bedroom, a marble bathroom with a whirlpool bath and balconies overlooking the Baroque façade. The Bodas.net promotion for weddings of at least 90 adults adds the wedding night in the bridal room, with breakfast, and special rates for guests at up to four of the chain's hotels in Oviedo. And the car? Bodas.net lists car parking among the hotel's spaces. Within that same promotion there are five free parking spaces on the wedding day and a 25% discount for the rest of the guests.

If it rains

It rains here, and that needs to be taken into account. The good news is that the Reconquista has indoor function rooms, so the wedding banquet does not depend on the sky. The courtyards are another matter: Bodas.net suggests them mainly for summer or for the cocktail reception. The same listing mentions a marquee. What we have not seen in writing is the exact plan if the ceremony was meant to be outdoors and the day dawns grey. Ask straight out: which room it moves to, how far in advance the decision is made, and whether the marquee can be used for that.

Photos at the Reconquista

You will not see photos of weddings at the Reconquista on this page. Evan & Natalia Simon do wedding and event photography and video in Asturias, but they have never worked at this hotel. What the pages do say offers some clues. The first is the Baroque façade. Bodas.net mentions function rooms, courtyards and corners behind it. The courtyards, including the Patio de la Reina and the Patio de los Gatos, are the natural place for photos during the cocktail reception. The balconies of the Royal Suites look onto that same façade, according to Asturias.com. And outside there is Parque San Francisco, next to the hotel, with Oviedo's old town a few steps away. Bodas.net also lists photography among the hotel's services.

Contact and your visit

The hotel has a weddings page on eurostarshotels.com, and its Bodas.net listing has a button to request a quote. That listing includes a virtual tour, two videos and 63 photos, which are useful for getting an idea before you go. The weddings phone number and email address do not appear in what we have read, so the simplest thing is to get in touch through either of those two pages. According to the hotel's website, its team will guide and advise you throughout the planning. On your visit, take a short list: where the ceremony is held, what happens if it rains, how much the surcharge is if you fall below the minimum, the exact address and how guests get there from Gijón, Avilés or the airport.
